TEACHER OF HISTORY

Main Scale or UPS

From September 2024

Permanent

We are looking for an inspirational teacher of History to join a thriving department in our high performing school.  History is an extremely popular option at both GCSE and A Level with attainment and progress well above the national average.   The department has a clear and very well resourced curriculum that stretches across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.  We use technology to enhance learning through the use of Google for Education and chromebooks and we are renowned for placing a high value on staff wellbeing and professional development at all levels.

Our school campus is unique and offers a splendid setting to teach in. The school site is closely associated with events as far reaching as the English Civil War and World War Two. We can even boast the presence of an on site archive which is enjoyed by our extra-curricular programme which includes an archaeology club. We are a department that values external visits and there is the opportunity to get involved in a residential Battlefields Trip, linked to the KS4 curriculum.

The successful applicant will be creative, an excellent communicator and committed to inclusive education. We wish to find a teacher who is rich in their knowledge of History and committed to developing their curriculum expertise in a way that meets the needs of our school’s context. Applications are invited from ECTs or experienced teachers.

History is part of a family of subjects in a school where our values are Everyone Learning and Everyone Caring. The school fosters an exceptional atmosphere of support and teamwork, placing a strong emphasis on wellbeing. As part of our school, you will be supported through:

  • An existing, rigorous and well resourced curriculum and team that work together to develop expertise in delivery

  • Sensible and impactful whole class feedback approaches which minimises time spent marking and maximises the time students spend acting on the feedback you give.

  • Working in the ambitious atmosphere of a school that has enjoyed being one the most improved schools in Oxfordshire and wants to progress further through sustainable and person-centred measures for improvement.

We are renowned for placing a high value on staff wellbeing and professional development at all levels.

Situated just east of Oxford in a unique parkland site, Wheatley Park School is a flourishing 11- 18 academy with a vibrant comprehensive intake.

Education has the power to change lives, communities and society for the better. At RLT we believe that we can achieve more for our pupils, trainees, staff and communities by working together rather than alone. Schools in RLT are united by a common belief in the benefits of working together, and by our commitment to shared principles.

OUR VISION is for our schools and SCITT to improve rapidly, continuously and sustainably: to be better faster together.

OUR ‘WHY?’ is that children and young people ‘only get one go’ in school and therefore as part of RLT we aim to ensure the best possible ‘go’ for our pupils.

OUR ‘HOW?’ is through the highest support and challenge for our schools and each other, underpinned by our principles.

Our employees benefit from a wide variety of support including extensive continuing professional learning and development opportunities, wellbeing and staff networks and access to Defined Benefit Pension Schemes (TPS and LGPS) for all staff. For more information on what it is like to work for the Trust, and the benefits you could access, please see our “Working in RLT” guide.
