St Thomas Aquinas is a large and thriving 11-18 Catholic comprehensive school where staff and students from all faiths live out the school mission and every member of the community feels valued and engaged. In November 2018 the school was judged to be GOOD by OFSTED.
The school requires an enthusiastic, experienced, and hardworking Art and DT Technician to join the faculty.
It is an exciting time to join St Thomas Aquinas School, as we became part of the Lumen Christi Catholic Multi Academy on the 1 April 2015. This links us with six of our Catholic Primary Feeder Schools and brings real opportunities for collaborative teaching and learning.
The postholder will support the work of the Art and DT Faculty enabling teaching and learning to be enhanced in these areas. The technician will work to support lessons in Art and Design Technology. Candidates would ideally have an interest in art and design and an extensive knowledge of working with workshop tools.
They will:
• Provide a practical service supporting staff in the faculty through maintenance, preparation and provision of equipment and materials to enable students to undertake design and technology curriculum activities, projects, and examination work.
• Set up and clear away materials and set up machinery and equipment including specialist equipment for technology lessons, demonstrations, and examinations.
• Help support and provide teaching aids such as worksheets, drawings for classroom project work.
• Demonstrate and provide hands-on practical student instruction in the correct usage and application of workshop machinery and tools. Work with students on project work in a support role.
• Ensure security of equipment, be aware and carry out risk assessments of DT machinery and electrical equipment and ensure that all Health and Safety Regulations are met.
• Lead on the annual maintenance of specialist equipment. Work with maintenance contractors to ensure all machinery and equipment is annually checked and documentation of annual maintenance is maintained.
