We wish to appoint a number of highly motivated Clerks to provide effective administrative support to the Local Governing Boards of several schools within the Trust:

 

Pilton Community College (Barnstaple, EX31)
Bratton Fleming & Holywell Schools Joint LGB (Barnstaple, EX31)
Orchard Vale Primary School (Barnstaple, EX32)
Ashleigh Primary School (Barnstaple, EX32)
Wilcombe Primary School (Tiverton, EX16)
Sampford Peverell Primary School (Tiverton, EX16)

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide advice to the governing body on governance, constitutional and procedural matters
  • Provide effective administrative support to the governing body, which involves preparing agendas in consultation with the Chair of Governors and Headteacher; taking and writing up the minutes and distributing documentation and other information to Governors
  • Ensure the governing body is correctly constituted
  • Manage information effectively in accordance with legal requirements, including becoming familiar with the DfE’s Governance Handbook
  • Effectively administer meetings

 

At Ventrus Multi Academy Trust, we believe a Clerk to the Local Governing Body plays a critical role. You need to be a highly organised person with attention to detail. You will have general administration experience such as minute taking and meeting organisation and be able to demonstrate a diplomatic approach to communication. Specific training on governance within a MAT will be provided through the support and mentoring from the Lead Clerk.

 

We require each applicant to clerk for a minimum of 2 schools and a maximum of 4 schools. Please confirm your preference when applying.

 

The posts are term time only on a part-time basis, and the annual salary is based on working either 100 hours per annum for 2 schools (approx. 2-3 hours per week), 150 hours per annum for 3 schools (approx. 3-4 hours per week) or 200 hours per annum for 4 schools (approx. 4-5 hours per week).

 

Governing Body meetings usually take place on site in the relevant school, in the evenings, although at present are being held online via Microsoft Teams. The role can be carried out flexibly from home so it is essential therefore that the Clerk has access to a computer/laptop and internet. Attendance is required at four full governing body meetings per year per LGB, plus additional Clerks meetings, as required.
